Pros: This house has a very large backyard for Chincoteague! Plenty of elbow room. It backs up to a small body of water. There are 2 canoes, paddles, and life jacket vests available to use. My husband and I had so much fun canoeing for the first time. You can sit on the dock in the back and watch all the blue crabs walking the water line. We didn't put any crab traps in the water this year but when we stayed here in 2015, we did very well! The kitchen is well stocked with plates, bowls, cups, utensils, a Keurig machine, and a slow-drip coffee maker. Cons: The four security cameras on the outside take away from the charm of the area. I didn't feel comfortable sunbathing or using the outdoor shower for that reason. It's a nice-sized ranch but the bedrooms are kind of poorly lit and don't get a ton of sunlight so they can feel a little cramped. Overall, it's a nice place to stay. I've never gone wrong with renting a home from Coastal Shore Vacations. They are a terrific company to work with!

Beautiful property, really nice house.

The back pier is beautiful for birdwatching, kayaking, fishing and crabbing with the kids, exploring the marsh, watching the sunset. Wildlife is abundant. We had a great time seeing the deer, fiddler crabs, blue crabs, bull minnows, snails, spitting oysters, mussels, egret, heron…. So much to see without leaving. The house was very clean especially for a pet friendly home. That is important to us so we were very satisfied. House was nicely decorated, plenty of parking space, lots of cool stuff in the garage including boogie boards, only 10 minute drive to the beach. The outdoor shower is the nicest one I’ve seen. The bugs were not nearly as bad as I expected. We sat outside at night and didn’t get eaten alive. Although we did get some bites in the outdoor shower. We went in the middle of July. There were very few jellyfish in the water. Has everything you need in the kitchen. I loved the huge refrigerator especially because we had an hard time finding decent food. All in all great house, we would definitely stay there again. Sitting room with pull out is like an extra bedroom. The French doors allow it to be closed off for privacy. Awesome rental company. The welcome bag has most of what you need. They even left a bag of saltwater taffy. Love this company!!! Side note TAKE CASH. Every place on that island is cash only!

We enjoyed gathering as a family at Mermaid Crossing. The home was as described and very accommodating. It is off the main roadways and very private. The management company answered all of our questions and communicated well. The younger ones really enjoyed the deck on the creek and over 2 days caught a bushel of crabs. Everything to steam them up was available for use at the home. Ample room for the extended family who dropped by for a visit and accessible for our birthday girl with her walker. No problem with our visiting service dog and overall a very pleasant trip.

We had such a wonderful time during our end of summer stay at Mermaid Crossing. The house was one of the best equipped houses we've rented. Anything you could think of they had available from beach gear, bikes, helmets, kayaks, life preservers, corn hole/games, fishing poles and gear, coolers and anything you might need in the kitchen this house has! The house was extremely cool and clean when we arrived and included a gift for our dog! The property was private enough being on a dead end road. The only neighbors we saw were the goats that lived in the yard next door! We rode the kayaks almost every day on the back creek, crabbed from the back deck and even tried some fishing(which wasn't as successful as crabbing). The outdoor shower was the only one we used in the house, and such a great bonus! The location of Mermaid Crossing is a short 2 minute drive to Main Street for shopping and places to eat. It's only a 10 minute drive to the beaches on Assateague Island. We took a pony watching eco tour, and chartered a fishing trip out of Curtis Merritt Harbor which was also a quick drive from the house at the end of Main Street. The house is quiet, secluded, well-equipped, comfortable, and close to all points of interest on the island. We fell in love with Chincoteague Island and will definitely be back, and plan on renting at Mermaids Crossing again!

Worked out well for having a dog. Caught a lot of crabs off the back deck. Kayaks were missing, so rental agency allowed us to rent two kayaks and they reimbursed the cost.

this is perhaps our favorite location to stay on CI, and weathering IAN and both of us having Covid 19, the home proved to be a wonderful sanctuary in which to be quarantined. That being said, the home offers so much, and the comfort of home, while being secluded with its own large yard, and many amenities. We will be returning next fall to this site, and will continue while health and life allows. Many thanks to the owners for making this property available!!

We have stayed at Mermaid Crossing several times and it’s a great family vacation home! The open concept in the kitchen/ dining room is great for cooking family meals! There are too many amenities to list but: dog friendly, outside shower, kayaks, bicycles, and beach accessories. The dock out back is so nice! There are crab traps & fishing poles to use and plenty of space. One of the reasons we love this place is it’s secluded from main roads but still very close to everything. We were so glad to be back this year to see the back bathroom floor updated! (Thank god that old carpet is gone!) My family loves the outside shower, but I personally won’t use it due to there being cameras everywhere on the property. I understand wanting to have added security, but I’m not a fan of opening the shower door and having two cameras pointing directly at me...No thanks! We always have to clean when we get here, dirty countertops, floors, and furniture. Found a few socks under beds, but so far it’s been SO worth all of that to stay here! We always wonder what’s in the little house attached to the dock, it’s so cute! This year there was no security deposit, but the price of the house went up, so we didn’t get any of that money back. We hope to rent again next year!

This was our 6th vacation on Chincoteague Island, and our first at Mermaid's Crossing. The house, which is situated on a beautuful,large piece of land, is very comfortable, with numerous amenities, including room for our canine companion. The location is peaceful, but easily accessible to activities in town. The only issue we had was that we had to do some cleaning in the kitchen when we arrived, but we loved this house and are already planning next summer's stay at Mermaids Crossing.

When we arrived to the house it smelled so clean and inviting. We stayed here a year ago and just love this place. We have 2 more stays booked so far for this house. Its very private and quiet. My husband loves all the decks and porches and so doed our dog. What can I say we love this house and Island. See you again in September.

The house was comfortable and well stocked with fun things to do, both indoors and out. There were lots of games, puzzles, books, bikes, and kayaks. The dock was awesome for crabbing and kayaking.

We are always very happy at Mermaid Crossing. Feels like home each year we come. We contacted Chincoteague Resort Vacations before we came because our dog passed away two weeks before we were to come. We were told a credit for the dog deposit would be coming. So far we have not seen that in our credit card account. Help in this would be appreciated. Thanks.

We have stayed a couple of times here and really like the location. The house has been cleaned up but there are ants and flies everywhere. We probably killed 50 flies the first day there.We will probably try to find a different place next year

House was nice and in decent shape. The windows need replaced a few are starting to come apart in the back left bedroom and the house has a problem with ants. Not horribly bad Otherwise a very comfortable home

We love Mwrmaid crossing. Minor plumbing issue. Also there is some sort of an access area in the ground at side of driveway. It is not covered. Someone could get hurt badly.
