You are here

Chincoteague Island is known for it's quaint, laid-back island time and Assateague Island is known for its wild ponies, beauitful wild beaches, hiking trails & so much more.  During the pandemic and now that it is wintertime, some of the regular activities that you might partake in are not available.  Most boat excursions have closed for the season.  The visitor centers on the refuge and out at Tom's Cove are closed right now, but the beach is open!  There are restroom facilities.

We will do our best to keep our local information updated for you. In the meantime, there's still a lot to do.  Bring your fishing pole (fishing license is required), your hiking boots, your binoculars, all of  your field guides, your paints and pencils and a good book.  Take the time to learn some new seafood recipes.  There is so much to do while visiting our islands.  Walk on the beach and breathe in that clean fresh ocean air!  There is downtown shopping - Sundial Books, Hollyhocks on Main, Don's Seafood, Bill's Prime, Tryfan Gallery and a lot more.  Right now the Governor has mandated that masks are required and some of our eateries are open to dine in under current COVID guidelines.  You can check with those eateries online.

So come for a vacation, a winter getaway.  Enjoy the peace and quite and all of our beauty!  Just be safe, wear your mask, wash your hands and maintain proper social distancing.
